- June 8 - Expanding Oregon’s Electronic Recycling Program [From SalemWatch]
- HB 2626 was signed by the Governor Thursday! For the first time in Oregon’s history, this bill creates a program that establishes manufacturer responsibility for the end of life handling of covered products and is backed up with a strong landfill ban for those products.
- Rollback for Our Ability to Protect Oregon’s Air Quality
- Senator Avakian is working with OCN groups and the Governor’s office to try to reach an agreement on amendments to SB 235 that still insure that all Oregon producers of air pollution comply with the Clean Air Act, which would keep SB 235 from being a rollback. A few weeks ago we deemed SB 235 a rollback if the current –A amendments are not part of the passed bill.

- HB 3525, better known as “oasis”, would direct the Water Resources Department to permit water withdrawls from the Columbia without existing pubic interest review.
- June 8 - Energy Independence through Renewable Fuels [From SalemWatch]
- HB 2210, which establishes the renewable fuel standard and will provide incentives for Oregon biofuel production, has also been languishing in Senate Revenue for over two months, and is one of the bills we are expecting to move soon.
- June 8 - Promoting Clean and Renewable Energy [From SalemWatch]
- A huge crowd attended the signing ceremony for SB 838, which brings to Oregon the most aggressive renewable energy standard in the country! Next week the Governor will sign HB 2620, or the “solar on public buildings” bill, which requires that public improvement contracts for construction or major renovations of public buildings appropriate at least 1.5 percent of the total contract price for solar energy technology.

- HB 3540 is on its way to Oregon voters! The amended HB 3540 passed the Senate on Tuesday and the House on Wednesday.

- Things are looking really good for SB 737 and it is likely it will be referred and will receive a hearing in the Natural Resources subcommittee for Ways and Means soon.

- HB 3540, which would refer to voters a fix of many of the substantive problems with Measure 37, is still pending in the Senate, and the talk of amendments is still floating around.

- This was an amazing week for clean, renewable energy with the passage of SB 838, but watch out for the flood of remaining bills that are part of the renewable energy package. Over the next two weeks, at least three other parts of the package may be arriving on the Governor’s desk, with still more in the hopper.

- Each year when we fill out our Oregon taxes, we have the opportunity to donate a portion of our return to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for the non-game division, who, unlike other departments is not funded through hunting and fishing fees.

- SB 665, Morrow County speedway development bill has a work session scheduled in the House Workforce and Economic Development committee on Wednesday, May 30, 8am in HR C. The bill was amended in the Senate to be slightly “less bad” by removing a provision that would have eliminated the appeals process and fast tracked development, but it is still a bad bill in danger of getting out of this committee.

- Finally, on Tuesday, May 29th, HB 2626 will be heard on the Senate floor! It was scheduled for today’s agenda but was held over because Senator Morse, who is carrying the bill, was absent. It will then be headed to the Governor’s desk.

- Today is truly an amazing day for Oregon’s environment as two significant and complex bills passed out of the legislature and are headed to the Governor’s desk. Taking a major step in combating global warming, the legislature passed SB 838, which establishes one of the most aggressive Renewable Energy Standards in the country.
