Oregon Senate fails to protect children from BPA

The Oregon Senate today narrowly voted against Senate Bill 1032, which would have banned the potentially harmful chemical bisphenol-A (BPA) from baby bottles and sippy cups.

Three Democrats sided with every Republican in a 15-15 vote against the bill--despite the accumulating evidence that BPA negatively affects childrens' brains, behavior, and prostate glands, and the fact that other states and countries have already enacted more expansive bans on the chemical.

House Bill 3073, legislation that is essentially identical to the original version of SB 1032, could make it to the House floor for a vote this session.
