OLCV hires experienced politico to run leading environmental organization

New director will build on OLCV’s electoral strength and environmental successes

PORTLAND, OR—The Oregon League of Conservation Voters, the state’s leading organization dedicated to environmental politics, announced today that Doug Moore has been hired as the organization’s executive director.

Doug Moore will join OLCV early next month after more than eight years on Capitol Hill, where he held senior positions with two members of Congress, including serving as chief of staff for former Congressman Jim Marshall. Moore’s deep political experience will help the organization build on its electoral and grassroots strength.

During the past two election cycles, OLCV has endorsed more 200 campaigns, winning 70-percent of its targeted races. As a result, the organization has successfully fought for major environmental priorities at the local and state level, including:

  • The Cool Schools Bill
  • Bottle Bill modernization
  • Funding for Oregon’s marine reserves
  • Plastic bag ban, city of Portland
  • Toxic BPA ban for sippy cups, Multnomah County

“Doug Moore’s experience winning tough races makes him a great fit for our organization’s mission of electing environmental champions and passing environmental priorities,” said Charlie Burr, chair of the OLCV search committee.

Doug brings an extensive background in electoral politics ranging from grassroots organizing to managing multi-million dollar campaigns. He’s worked on both statewide and congressional races, including winning numerous competitive campaigns. In 2006, Doug’s management of Representative Jim Marshall’s campaign won praise from the Washington Post’s political column, “The Fix”, which called the campaign one of the ten best incumbent campaigns of the cycle.

“Oregon is a special place,” said Doug Moore. “I’m looking forward to working with OLCV’s talented staff and coalition allies to protect the state’s natural legacy. I’m eager to build on our organization’s political strength and help grow our grassroots capacity around the state.”

Doug will be moving to Portland with his wife and young son.
